ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Jia Anderson won three events to lead the Navy women's track & field team to its seventh-consecutive Indoor Star victory, as the Midshipmen defeated Army, 94-87, on Saturday afternoon at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis.
With the men's team also posting a 98-83 win, Navy secured its 26th-consecutive combined Star victory across indoor and outdoor seasons.
"This dual is designed to be close, and to win 26 in a row — that's never been done before," said Navy Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jamie Cook. "It's a testament to our athletes, coaches and the culture we've built since 2019. We're proud of this group and we're going to keep getting better."
Track Events
Sophie Compton gave Navy an early boost by winning the mile in 4:46.10, the seventh-fastest time in program history, to put the Mids in front, 17-16.
Navy earned its first sweep in the 60-meter hurdles, led by Anderson's 8.45, which ties the fourth-fastest time in school history. Caroline Rey followed with a career-best 8.75.
Sophie Richter continued her strong season in the 400 meters, winning for the fourth time this year with a 55.56.
Army closed within two points in the 500 meters behind Cherokee Chambers' winning time of 1:12.99, making the score 34-32.
The Mids responded with a sweep in the 60 meters. Anderson tied another program top-10 mark with a 7.59, while Rey finished second in 7.65 to extend Navy's lead to 42-35.
Army's Grace Coppel won the 800 meters in 2:12.66. Julia Blake (2:12.72) and Reilly Nusbaum (2:13.21) placed second and third, respectively, as Navy maintained a 61-49 advantage.
The 1,000 meters came down to the wire, as Army's Mikayla Cheney edged Mia-Claire Kezal, 2:49.91 to 2:50.01, while Kate Leddy placed third in 2:54.95.
Anderson earned her third victory of the day in the 200 meters, posting a season-best 24.52 that slots among the program's top-10 all-time marks. Richter followed in 24.63 to complete the sweep.
Compton captured the 3,000 meters in 9:35.90, the ninth-fastest time in school history. She moved from fifth to second midway through the race before surging past Claire Lewis (9:37.78) over the final lap.
Army closed the track portion by winning both relays, taking the 4x400 in 3:43.59 and the 4x800 in 9:07.06.
