Army Women's Rugby Wins Star with Impressive Victory

The Army West Point women's rugby was in complete control for all 80 minutes on Saturday afternoon as it dominated Navy 84-0 to win the Star.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's rugby was in complete control for all 80 minutes on Saturday afternoon as it dominated Navy 84-0 to win the star and solidify itself in the NIRA playoffs.

The match, which is part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA, was never in doubt for the Black Knights. The 84 points scored, and 84-point margin of victory are both the fourth most in program history. Army is now 3-0 in the star series against Navy. 

The Black Knights opened the scoring in the third minute on a try by Taimane Fiatoa and a conversion by Alissa Eisenhart to quickly grab a 7-0 lead. Cassidy Ball added a try in the 10th minute to push it to 12-0 in favor of Army. Emily Steen scored the next two tries for Army. Cecilia Ollis recorded her first try of the day at the midway point of the opening half to make it 27-0. 

The next three tries came courtesy of Fiatoa, Grace Macune and Chloe De Leon to give Army a 46-0 halftime lead. Eisenhart had three conversions in the opening half. 

Once the teams came out of the locker rooms for the second half, the Black Knights got right back to dominating on the pitch. Macune opened the second half with her second try of the game to make it 53-0 after a successful conversion by Eisenhart. 

The next scoring sequence was all Eisenhart as she added the try and conversion to make it 60-0 Army. Alyssa Davis added the next try to help push the score to 67-0. The remaining tries came courtesy of De Leon and Ball. 

Steen had the final scoring play of the game in the 79th minute on an impressive drop goal to make it 84-0.
