Navy Women Capture Indoor Track & Field Star

The Navy track and field team swept the 2025 Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet which is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.

The Navy track and field team swept the 2025 Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet which is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.

The men's team posted a 99-82 victory, while the women's team claimed a 94-87 win at the Gillis Field House in West Point, N.Y. 

It was the sixth consecutive indoor victory in the series for both the men and women teams. The Midshipmen have now won 22-straight indoor / outdoor Star competitions over the Black Knights. "This victory says a lot about our team and our ability to win. We did a good job competing when we needed to compete and winning those close battles," stated Director of Track and Fiield Jamie Cook.

"We knew Army would be strong in some areas. All we could control is what we do, our coaches had the athletes prepared and ready to compete. I'm very proud of our coaching staff and obviously our student-athletes."

The women's team added on its series lead to 21-17-1. The Mids won 10 of 17 events, earning maximum points in three by placing first and second in an event.

The running events got started with junior Sophie Compton placing third in the mile event for the first two team points. Compton added her name to the record book posting the fifth fastest mile time in program history of 4:47.29. Compton's big day carried over in the 3,000m where she ran the second-best time of 9:41.63. She ended her day with five combined points.

It was a photo finish in the 60m dash with a .01 second separating first and third. The Midshipmen duo of Annie Lemelin and Jia Anderson held off Olivia Reed. Lemelin and Anderson ran an identical time of 7.71 to take 1-2, it was a career-best mark for Lemelin. Anderson and Lemelin also went 1-2 in the 60m hurdles.

Anderson clocked in at 8.65 while Lemelin added to her career day with a personal best time of 8.74. The duo combined for 21 of the teams 94 points on Saturday.

Lemelin capped her day off as a member of the 4x400m relay team that recorded the 10th fastest time in Navy history of 3:47.27. Joining Lemelin was Kylie Bedard, Sophia Richter and Taylor Woodworth. The time of 3:47.27 was also a Gillis Field House facility record.

Anderson won her second event of the day in the 200m when she clocked a time of 25.35. Savannah Swanda added a team point in the event taking fourth with a time of 25.74.

Sophia Richter won the 400m event as she posted a season-best time of 56.28. Kylie Bedard ran a time of 56.64 to place third.

Senior team captain Taylor Woodworth claimed the 500m top crown for the second-consecutive meet with a season-best time and a Gillis Field House facility record of 1:13.32.

Mia-Claire Kezal and Lexi Ensor combined for seven points in the 1,000m event. Kezal led the pace with her season-best time of 2:52.03. Ensor took third place with a career-best time of 2:53.55.

In the field events Zoie Tesi won the high jump event. She registered the ninth best mark in program history with a height of 1.71m (5' 7.25") to add five team points for the Midshipmen. Tesi added three more points in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.52m (37' 9.5").

Navy went 1-2-3 in the pole vault event. Helen Emerick and Sophia Hill awarded the Mids eight points with an identical mark of 3.75m (12' 3.5"). Mimi McHugh finished third as she tied her season-best mark of 3.60m (11' 9.75"). 

Navy capped off the meet with a time of 9:26.42 in the 4x800m relay to secure its 22nd-consecutive star.
