2018 Army-Navy Rivalry Showcased in MLB Facilities
Game one of this series will be hosted at the 106-year old Fenway Park, home park for the Boston Red Sox. This is the first time in Navy's storied history that a Midshipmen baseball team has played at Fenway Park. Four weeks ago, on March 25, the two Mids and Black Knights faced off at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
Tickets for Friday's game will cost $10 for general admission lower level seating. Members of the military in uniform will receive free admission at the gates. Ticket proceeds from the matchup will be donated to charity. Proceeds from the Army-Navy game will benefit the Home Base Program, a partnership between Massachusetts General Hospital and the Red Sox Foundation that helps veterans suffering from PTSD and other "invisible wounds of war."
Navy vs. Army
The Midshipmen are 120-111 all-time versus the Black Knights. Navy is currently on a two-game losing streak against Army.
In the most recent matchup on March 25, the two teams played in front of over 3,200 fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Navy battled with Army over 19 innings in a Patriot League doubleheader that saw the Black Knights come away with a pair of victories. Army defeated Navy in 10 innings in game one by a score of 5-3 before they earned the sweep of the Mids with an 8-2 win in game two.
The Mids used slick middle infield defense and clutch two-out hitting in a snowy game one to fight back and force extra innings after trailing 3-1 through five. In the second contest, the Black Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the fourth and never looked back in a wire-to-wire victory.
