Army-Navy Lacrosse Rivalry Returns to West Point

 
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army-Navy rivalry returns to the banks of the Hudson this Saturday when the Black Knights and Midshipmen clash on CBS Sports Network.

While bragging rights will once again be on the line when Army and Navy battle one another on Saturday at Michie Stadium (12:00 PM), there are also have heavy Patriot League playoff implications on the line for the two programs.
 
The scoring and shooting statistics for Army and Navy are near mirror images. Navy has scored 95 goals, Army 96.  Navy has 62 assists, Army has 61. Navy has 157 points, as does Army. Navy has 372 shots, Army has 377. Navy's leading scorer is Christian Daniel with 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists. Nate Jones leads Army with 28 points on 19 goals and 9 assists. The most eye-popping difference between the two is the turnover category. Navy has 171 turnovers, while the Black Knights have 130.


Army and Navy have met twice in a season on seven previous occasions. In 1978 and '81, the two also met in the NCAA Tournament. The two have met in the Patriot League Tournament in 2005, '06, '07, '10, '15 and '16.
The Mids lead the series in West Point, 28-17-2, however the Black Knights have won four of the last five games played at Michie Stadium. Navy won the last meeting in West Point, 11-10, on an overtime goal by current senior Casey Rees.  

Saturday's contest marks the 99th contest between Army and Navy on the lacrosse field, meeting for the 86th consecutive year. It's the longest continuous lacrosse series between Navy and another team. Navy owns a 60-35-3 series advantage and has won 17 of the last 26 contests in the series.  The Mids also own a 55-32-3 advantage in Star Games, winning 14 of the last 20 including each of the last three.
 
Saturday's Army-Navy men's lacrosse game is one of four remaining Star competitions for the season. In addition to men's lacrosse, the Army-Navy women's lacrosse game will also be played on Saturday following the men's game. The Army-Navy baseball series is slated to be played April 20 (Fenway Park in Boston, Mass.) and April 21 (West Point), while the men's tennis match will be played April 21 in Annapolis.

Saturday's contest will be televised live via CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan and Evan Washburn calling the action.
