Army Tennis Travels to Navy for Star Match

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (19-5, 0-1 PL) will host Army West Point (15-5, 3-0 PL) in the annual Army-Navy Star Match on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Tose Family Tennis Center inside the Brigade Sports Complex.

The Army-Navy women's tennis Star Match is a part of the 2017-18 Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Army currently leads the all-sport Star Series, 9-6-2.

ARMY (15-5, 3-0 Patriot League)
• Six Cadets have won at least 15 singles matches this year: Hannah Boubel (24), Sasha Inchauste (18), Ana Joyner (18), Gloria Son (16), Danna Funaro (15) and Melanie Allen (15).
• Kirby Einck is riding a team-best eight match winning streak in singles play.
• Her nine dual wins is the most on the squad.
• Allen and Joyner have combined for team-best marks in doubles, both overall at 17-9 and in duals at 10-4 in the top flight.

NAVY (19-5, 0-1 Patriot League)
• The Mids enter the match having won seven straight contests and 15 of their last 16.
• Their only match in league play was a 5-2 setback against Boston University on Feb. 4.
• Carlee Conway and Emily Louie-Meadors are tied for the best singles record on the team at 18-8.
• The duo of Amanda Keller and Kaylah Hodge have been Navy's top doubles team, competing to a team-best 19-6 record that includes an 11-3 mark in the top flight in duals.

Navy is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Georgetown and Rider last Saturday. Navy defeated the Hoyas, 5-2, and then knocked off the Broncs, 7-0. Navy extended its winning streak to seven matches with the doubleheader sweep.

Army went 3-0 against Patriot League opponents last weekend, defeating Lafayette, 4-0, Holy Cross, 7-0, and Loyola, 4-0.

Army leads the all-time series against Navy, 8-2. Army is 4-1 against Navy in Star Matches and 4-1 against Navy in Patriot League Tournament matches. Army began playing varsity women's tennis during the 1978-79 academic school year, and Navy began in 2009-10.

Navy's lone Star Match win came in 2015 when the Mids posted a 4-3 win at Army. Army defeated Navy in the Star Match last season in West Point, 5-2.

In last season's Army-Navy match, Army won the doubles point, 2-1, and then won four of the six singles matches for a 5-2 victory. Army returns just three of its six singles starters from last year's match, while Navy returns all six single starters.
