Navy offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ivin Jasper is one of 40 nominees for the Broyles Award. The nominees in this year's class were chosen from almost 1,500 assistant coaches representing the 128 FBS college football programs.
Jasper has helped lead Navy to an 8-2 record and a 6-1 mark in the American Athletic Conference. The Mids have already clinched the West Division title and will play for a chance to host the AAC Championship game on Saturday.
The Mids have accomplished all that despite losing their starting quarterback on the second play of the second quarter in the first game. Senior quarterback Will Worth, who had been third team on the depth chart for the first three years and second team this year, has stepped in for Smith and is on his way to one of the greatest seasons in Navy history.
The Mids are second in the country in third down conversions (.551), third in the country in rushing (326.6), third in passing yards per completion (19.5), third in fewest turnovers (eight), seventh in team passing efficiency (172.9, 12th in time of possession (33:24), 15th in fourth down conversions (.652) and 20th in scoring offense (38.4 ppg).
Worth has rushed for 1,074 yards and 22 touchdowns on 243 carries, while throwing for 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns, while completing 61 percent of his passes. Over the last six games, Worth has rushed for 905 yards and 17 touchdowns, while throwing for 732 yards and six touchdowns. Worth's 22 touchdowns this year is tied for the most in the nation and is the ninth most in NCAA history by a quarterback. Former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds holds the record with 31.
