The Navy football team (4-1, 3-0 in the AAC) moved up from 25th to 24th in the Associated Press poll and made an appearance for the first time this year in the Amway Coaches Poll at No. 25. Navy finished the 2015 season ranked 18th in the country. It is the first time that Navy has been ranked in back-to-back seasons since 1978-79.
The Mids received 163 voting polls in the AP poll, 25 points behind No. 23 Ole Miss (3-3) and 40 points ahead of No. 25 LSU (4-2). Navy is one of four Group of Five teams ranked. Houston (6-1) is 11th, Boise State (6-0) is 14th and Western Michigan (7-0) 20th. USF is receiving votes in the AP poll.
Navy received 133 voting points in the coaches poll, 25 points behind No. 24 Auburn (4-2) and 12 points ahead of Colorado, who is the top team receiving votes not ranked. Houston (11th), Boise State (14th) and Western Michigan (20th) are also ranked in the coaches poll, while USF, Memphis and Tulsa are all receiving votes.
Navy will take on Memphis (5-1, 2-0) with first place in the American Athletic Conference West Division on the line Saturday at 3:30 PM at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
