Freshman Alohi Gilman Named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Freshman Alohi Gilman was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Navy's 28-24 victory over UConn on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams, while senior Will Worth was named to the honor roll.

Gilman, who can play multiple positions for the Mids, recorded a team-high tying 10 tackles, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles in Navy's four-point win.  Gilman made the key defensive play of the game with a fumble return for a touchdown after he stripped the ball from UConn QB Bryant Shirreffs.

Worth, who was making his first-career start at quarterback, completed six of his eight pass attempts for 130 yards and rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns including the game winning touchdown with 3:08 left in the contest.

Navy (2-0, 1-0 in the AAC) travels to New Orleans this weekend to take on the Tulane Green Wave (1-1, 0-0) on Saturday at 7:00 PM (ET), 6:00 PM local time.  The game will be broadcast by the American Sports Network and ESPN3.  Locally, the game will be available on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
